What Is LLM Marketing? A Plain Guide for Brands

LLM marketing gets your brand mentioned in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. What it is, how it differs from SEO marketing and how to start.

What Is LLM Marketing? A Plain Guide for Brands

A year ago, almost nobody I talked to had heard the phrase "LLM marketing." Now it comes up in nearly every first call at Sublime Plus. Usually someone asks about it a little nervously, like they've missed something big.

You haven't missed much yet. But it's worth understanding now, because it's quickly becoming one of the most important parts of how brands get found.

What LLM marketing means

LLM stands for large language model, the technology behind ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews.

LLM marketing is everything you do to make those tools mention your brand, describe it accurately and recommend it to the right people. When someone asks ChatGPT "what's the best accounting tool for freelancers" or asks Gemini "who does good Reddit marketing for small brands," LLM marketing is the work that decides whether your name is in the answer.

You'll hear other names for it too: GEO, AI search optimization, LLM SEO, AI visibility. They all point at the same goal.

How it's different from SEO marketing

SEO marketing is about getting your own pages to rank on Google and earning the click. LLM marketing is about getting your brand named inside an answer, often without a click at all.

The biggest difference is where the work happens. SEO focuses mostly on your website. LLM marketing leans heavily on what other people say about you across the web, because that's what AI tools read. I broke this down fully in SEO vs LLM optimization: what's the difference.

You still need both. They just do different jobs.

What LLM marketing actually involves

Being part of the conversation. AI tools learn a lot from discussions on Reddit, forums and community sites. Brands that show up there with useful answers get mentioned more.

Reviews. Platforms like Trustpilot, G2, Yelp and Google reviews carry real weight with AI tools.

Clear, quotable content. Pages that answer real questions plainly are easier for AI tools to understand and repeat.

A consistent identity. The same name, description and facts everywhere, so the tools never get confused about who you are.

Monitoring. Regularly asking the AI tools what they say about you and your competitors, and tracking how that changes.

Who needs it most

Honestly, almost any brand whose customers research before buying. But it's urgent for a few groups. Brands that keep watching competitors get recommended instead of them. Brands with outdated or negative information showing up in AI answers. And B2B companies whose buyers quietly research for weeks before they ever fill in a form.

How to get started

Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, and see who shows up. Ask each one what it knows about you directly. Then look at where your category gets discussed online and where you're missing from those conversations.

If you want a simple way to measure where you stand, what is LLM visibility walks you through it.

How Sublime does LLM marketing

LLM marketing is the core of what we do at Sublime+. Our main tool is organic Reddit content, because Reddit sits right where Google results and AI answers overlap. The Sublime marketing team pairs that with research into how each AI tool currently sees your brand, so we know exactly what to fix first.

We also keep it affordable. Sublime Plus Marketing was built so growing brands can compete in AI answers without an enterprise budget. If you want to know where your brand stands, start at sublime-plus.com.
